Luke 24:30-32

Question

What items are on the table where you eat most of your meals?

  1. Entering the weekend, when life pace changes enough so that you can enjoy your meals without needing to rush "What's next?". take a moment to look at where you eat. That horizontal surface of a table holds more than meals. Whether plain between settings, or ready with napkins waiting, the stuff of life is there.

In a moment, I'll breakfast in our kitchen on the same table that held my first after-eating-in-a-high-chair meals. Among the items on my table are impressions of the hands that held each other during prayers thanking God that we had food to eat... the invisible shells that held words of love and encouragement... the scars, accidentally gouged while making projects for school... the stains from tears of joy; and grief... the reflections of today and hints of tomorrow... The stuff of life is there, indeed.

Later today, along with you, I will get ready for the weekend. With the members, friends, and those who will be Guests of St. Philip's, that includes preparing our minds and hearts to worship God. On Sunday morning, we'll gather at a table to receive Holy Communion. The stuff of life, Jesus, will be there.
