Matthew 19: 16-21; Luke 9: 23-26

Matthew 19:16-21Common English Bible (CEB)

A rich man’s question

16 A man approached him and said, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to have eternal life?”
17 Jesus said, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There’s only one who is good. If you want to enter eternal life, keep the commandments.”
18 The man said, “Which ones?”
Then Jesus said, “Don’t commit murder. Don’t commit adultery. Don’t steal. Don’t give false testimony.19 Honor your father and mother,[a] and love your neighbor as you love yourself.”[b]
20 The young man replied, “I’ve kept all these. What am I still missing?”
21 Jesus said, “If you want to be complete, go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor. Then you will have treasure in heaven. And come follow me.”

Luke 9:23-26Common English Bible (CEB)

23 Jesus said to everyone, “All who want to come after me must say no to themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow me. 24  All who want to save their lives will lose them. But all who lose their lives because of me will save them. 25  What advantage do people have if they gain the whole world for themselves yet perish or lose their lives? 26  Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Human One[a] will be ashamed of that person when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

  1. Living as a Christian is a daily choice. Actually, eacb day brings multiple choices. Some easy; others, difficult. Each, all, part of Eternity.

  2. Eve got up in the night to ask me what "temptation" is. Apparently she had been ruminating since we said the Lord's prayer at bed time. How would you respond to an 8 year old?
