2 Corinthians 9:12; Matthew 7:7-12

2 Corinthians 9:12; Matthew 7:7-12

Today, Dr. Schultz is preaching from these texts. Here are the Sermon Notes:

Open minds think, and thinking is self-directed.

Asking is more about acknowledging our dependence on God than it is about what we need or want.

We open our eyes much in the same way that we open our minds.

We have to reach beyond ourselves to knock.

Questions:

How often do you intentionally think about God’s extravagant generosity?

About what life issues is it easy for you to open your mind?

About what life issues it is difficult for you to open your mind?

Why?

1 Corinthians 11:17-34

1 Corinthians 11:17-34

As St. Philip's worships God today, our Pastor's sermon is from this Bible reading. He will talk about "When the Church Served Wonder Bread." And, how it still does as we encounter the Mystery of Christ and His presence each time we share Holy Communion together.

Question
  • What is among your favorite memories of receiving Holy Communion?
  • Are there other ways, times, or places wherein you experience the Mystery of Christ?

1 Corinthians 11:17-34

1 Corinthians 11:17-34

Today's reading is the earliest biblical account of Jesus' last supper with his disciples sharing what we now remember and celebrate as a Sacrament of the Church.

At each Worship Service tomorrow, everyone present will have the opportunity to receive Holy Communion. We celebrate this Sacrament as an "open" Table, welcoming all who will come.

Questions

  • In what ways will you prepare yourself to receive this act of God's self-giving?
  • Who will you invite to worship God with you tomorrow?
